Followed here from Facebook... Hard to believe a year ago we were living in the heart of D/FW.... now living on 13 acres in north Montague county outside of Saint Jo. Really living the dream here.
So 8 months in and we have a nice flock of chickens that are currently forcing us to expand our egg diet... Started those in August and all are doing really well.
Just last week we took delivery of 2 pair of registered kune kune pigs. Going to breed these while having them improve our pastures.
Garden is going in and well... we’ll see what comes next.

You've really got it going on! That is the dream for sure. What made you decide to take the leap and move onto 13 acres?

I got a real simple answer... The city isn’t the place to raise a family. I wanted my son to have the same freedom I did growing up.... but I couldn’t let him play in the front yard in the city. Here it’s back to “Be home when the lights come on”. We have woods to explore and a pond to skip rocks across... shoot from our porch... no one driving by playing rap music. Town is a 15 minute drive and it’s a 1 red light town with a square.
People are friendly and you know everybody. Heck in town didn’t know 3/4 of the people on my street.

Sounds ideal! We live on 2.5 acres and I’m dying to expand. Just waiting for the right property to come along. You are absolutely right, when we lived in a neighborhood there was no way the kids could play out front. I love the freedom they have here but I want more

They had a 4 hour haul getting here... so the first few days were a little rough. After that it seems everyday they’re getting more and more docile... and downright affectionate.
Yesterday I learned how to roll a pig..... just scratch their belly... they roll right over.
Zero digging so far... I mean zero. They do like their water and like getting wet when it’s warm... but not when it’s cold.
I have the boys and girls split up right now... at the end of March will pair em up and see how they do.
Learned the electric net really quick and haven’t tested it since the first pop. It’s more there for their protection than keeping them in. Seem content to graze all day.
